Classes we have offered in the past are listed below. Our current schedule is listed above by date. If you are interested in any of the classes below, please call the shop to schedule a time.
These classes are designed for you—please help us make them fun and exciting!
Classes are limited, and pre-registration is required. If you don’t see a class on the list, it’s probably because we haven’t had a request for it. Let us know what you want to learn and we’ll set up a time to teach you.
We offer a full range of knit and crochet classes and open knitting sessions designed to fit your needs. If you’re stuck on a project or looking for new ideas, stop in and see us. Class projects are available on demand and we welcome your ideas and suggestions. Classes are available days, evenings, and weekends and are updated quarterly. To register for a class, please call us at 478-7GO-KNIT (746-5648). All of our classes can be adapted for groups or individual/private lessons. Refunds of your class fee will be made with a 48-hour notification of inability to attend class. Since class sizes are limited, please reserve your spot so that we may ensure you receive the personal attention you deserve. Payment for classes must be made at registration. Teachers will work with students on missed class time at their convenience.
Class Policies:
Once your class fee is received, your space in class is guaranteed.
Your class supplies must be purchased at Creative Yarns prior to the class.
If you are reserving a class over the phone, we can take your credit card info to hold your spot.
Class sessions run for the designated times—please be on time.
Space in classes is limited to registered students.
Classic Patterns & Techniques
These classes will be long enough to teach the technique, but not to begin and end a complete project. A minimum of 3 people is required for each class and pre-registration is required. Please call the shop to register.
The fee for each Techniques Class is $15 + supplies.
Some classes require pre-work. Please contact the store to get your homework assignment prior to the class date.
Workshops
These classes are longer (from 3–6 hours) and are priced accordingly.
Beginner Classes
Beginner Knitting and Beginner Crochet may be scheduled as private lessons, unless arrangements for a group class are made.
Beginner Knitting | class time: 2 hours | The perfect class for the absolute beginner—no experience needed. Learn the necessary basics: cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off as you make a scarf or washcloth. | $25, plus supplies.
Beginner Crochet | class time: 2 hours | The perfect class for the absolute beginner—no experience needed. Learn the necessary basics to crochet as you make a belt, scarf or small blanket. | $25, plus supplies.
Advanced/Intermediate Classes/Workshops
(add $5 for private lessons)
Beginning Intarsia | class time: 2 hours | For Intermediate Knitters | The perfect class to learn how to use bobbles to work a design into a project. Suggested project: felted coasters. | $25, plus supplies.
Blocking | class time: 1 hour | Learn to block your projects and finish them with finesse! Blocking is a vital part of knitting and crocheting. We’ll show you the basics and you can enjoy watching your projects as they become more tailored. | $15, plus supplies.
Bring Your Own Project | class time: 8 hours (four 2-hour sessions) | This class allows you to choose a project that will stretch your skills and have instruction every step of the way. | $60, plus supplies.
Buttonholes | class time: 1 hour | Learn button hole techniques and how to place them. | $15, plus supplies.
Chart Reading | class time: 1 hour | Learn all about chart reading and how it can simplify your knitting. | $15, plus supplies.
Chickens | class time: 2 hours | Choose from two chicken patterns and we’ll help you get started! Learn increases, decreases, short rows and more. | $25, plus supplies.
Continental Knitting | class time: 2 hours | Many ‘lefties’ or crocheters have an easier time learning Continental Style Knitting. It’s an efficient method for everyone. Learn to stop ‘throwing’ your yarn with the right hand and simply ‘pick’ the yarn through. | $40, includes supplies.
Crocheted Edgings | class time: 2 hours | We'll teach you techniques to dress up your knitted or crocheted projects. | $25, plus supplies.
Crocheted Hat | class time: 2 hours | A perfect project for summer days at the beach. We walk you through the pattern and explain techniques to ensure a perfect fit! | $25, plus supplies.
Crocheted Market Bag | class time: 2 hours | Crochet an eco-friendly market bag, ideal for grocery shopping. We will walk you through the pattern and get you well on your way on this fun project. | $25, plus supplies.
Crocheting Beyond the Basics | class time: 2 hours | If you understand basic crocheting stitches and you are ready to move forward, this is the class for you! Learn techniques for color changes, various stitches, how to read patterns, and so much more! | $25, plus supplies.
Entrelac Bag | class time: 4 hours (two 2-hour sessions) | Learn the basics of Entrelac—French for interlaced. Stockinette stitch combined with specific methods for picking up stitches and knitting stitches together make a beautiful woven bag. Kit and Needles required. | $45, plus supplies.
Fair Isle Workshop for Intermediate knitters | class time: 2 hours | An introduction to 2-color knitting, carrying and stranding, using both hands to get beautiful results. | $25, plus supplies. Suggested project: hat. Supplies needed are worsted weight yarn (2 colors) and appropriate sized needles.
Felted Clogs | class time: 3 hours | You'll make some comfy and CUTE clogs for winter mornings. For this class, you must know the basics of knitting and purling. $35, plus supplies.
Felted Flip Flops | class time: 2 hours | Knit and felt the most comfortable one-of-a-kind flip flops you will ever put your feet into! We will walk you through the pattern and explain how to machine felt to ensure a perfect fit! $25, plus supplies.
Felted Little Animals | class time: 3 hours | In this class we will cover the basics of needle felting small animals and you will create one of your very own! | $35, plus supplies. Supplies needed include a needle felting kit & roving in your choice of colors.
Fingerless Gloves | class time: 2 hours | You'll be comfy and cozy when cool weather comes! Learn cables and other techniques as you knit these adorable fingerless gloves. | $25, plus supplies.
Finishing | class time: 2 hours | Learn the proper way to block, seam and finish neck edges of your KNITTED projects. Bring 4 squares, knitted in stockinette stitch, each 6 inches by 6 inches. Keep 2 squares on the needles and bind off the other 2. Any yarn and needle size is fine. | $25, plus supplies.
Functional Kniteracy | class time: 2 hours | Designed for knitters who want to learn more about reading patterns and working up decorative stitches. You will go home with samples to help you remember which stitches you like the best and to inspire you to use them in your own knitting projects. Bring #8 or #9 needles and yarn to match. | $25, plus supplies.
Get Your Gauge On! | class time: 1 hour | Learn all about gauge and why it matters so much, how to count stitches and correct your gauge. | $15, plus supplies.
Heather Hoodie Vest | class time: 6 hours (three 2-hour sessions) | In this class you must know the basic knit & purl stitches and how to cast on and bind off. We will cover the pattern instructions, select yarn and begin knitting. You will be knitting at home between classes in order to complete the project within this time slot. | $60, plus supplies.
Help! What Now? | class time: 2 hours | This is for the knitter who knows how to knit but doesn’t know how to un-knit, i.e., fix those mistakes that happen to us all. We will have hands-on practice until you feel comfortable fixing your own knitting errors. Please bring a 6-inch x 6-inch swatch of any yarn—still on the needles! | $25.
Hobby Horse | class time: 2 hours | We’ll teach you to make your very own wonderful heirloom gift. To take this class, you must know how to knit socks. | $25, plus supplies.
I Love Lace | class time: 2 hours | In this ideal first-lace-project class, you will knit a cool summer scarf to top off a favorite outfit. You'll learn the ins and outs of knitting lace. | $25, plus supplies.
Introduction to Needle Felting | class time: 3 hours | You don’t have to have an embellisher machine to needle felt! Just a few inexpensive tools and you’re on your way. We will cover the basics of needle felting and create several two-dimensional projects which might include a set of coasters, a small book or journal cover, or a small piece of art for the wall. | $35, plus supplies.
Increases | class time: 1 hour | We'll discuss the different types of increases and how to choose one over the other. | $15, plus supplies. Bring supplies from your stash! You need solid colored, worsted or DK weight yarn and needles suitable for that yarn.
Kathy's Cardigan | class time: 8 hours (four 2-hour sessions) | Improve your knitting skills in a fun-filled class that emphasizes pattern reading, confidence building, and problem solving. You’ll learn tips and tricks in every class that will reinforce your joy of knitting. This class is designed for Intermediate/Advanced skill level knitters. | $60, plus supplies.
Knitted Flower Embellishment Workshop | class time: 3 hours | Add a special finishing touch to a purse or hat with a 3-D knitted (felted or not) flower with leaves. Supplies: variety of knitting needles and yarn (wool if you want to felt the flowers), ribbon, novelty, any kind of yarn you want to use, buttons, tapestry needle. | $35, plus supplies.
Knitting on Circular Needles | class time: 1 hour | Learn all about knitting on circular needles and how to join your knitting to knit in the round. | $15, plus supplies.
Knitting on Double Point Needles | class time: 1 hour | Learn all about double point needles and why they are so useful in many projects. | $15, plus supplies.
Knit & Tonic Knit-A-Long | class time: 1 hour | This adorable children’s sweater is so precious that you will want to knit one for every child! We walk you through the process and help you with techniques needed to knit this sweet sweater. | $15, plus supplies.
Knitted Balloon Animals | class time: 2 hours | With a variety of patterns available, you will choose the animal you like most and we’ll get you started! Learn increases, decreases, multi-colored knitting, and more. | $25, plus supplies.
Knitted Market Bag | class time: 2 hours | Join us as we knit eco-friendly market bags ideal for shopping, running around town, and more! You'll learn techniques and tricks that make knitting fun! | $25, plus supplies.
Knitting Beyond the Basics | class time: 2 hours | You are knitting and purling and eager to learn more—what’s the next step? This class can be anything you need it to be. Each session focuses on a different aspect of knitting. Examples of class topics include, but are not limited to, color changes, cables, knitting in the round, and reading a pattern. This is the perfect class to take when starting a new project. Upon completion of these sessions you will consider yourself a true knitter! | $25.
Lacy Wristlets | class time: 2 hours | A pretty and cool way to dress up a favorite summer outfit! | $25, plus supplies.
Magical Moebius Scarf | class time: 2 hours | Learn to make a scarf with a “twist.” This unique method of casting on, using extra long circular needles, makes a fluid, circular scarf, particularly suited for warmer weather. The book by Cat Bordhi, A Treasury of Magical Knitting, is helpful but not necessary. | $25, plus supplies, which include long (47” +) circular needles and yarn of your choice.
Orphan Class | class time: 2 hours | Do you have a project that you've put aside because you've run into something you didn’t know how to do, or you wanted to make changes to the pattern but didn’t know how? Bring all your orphans and projects you’ve put down because you ran into trouble. We can give you specialized help for your project. | $25.
Seaming | class time: 1 hour | Learn all about seams and the many different seaming techniques and when to use each one. | $15, plus supplies.
Sock Workshop | class time: 7 hours (all day, 9 a.m–4 p.m.) | In this class we will teach you basic socks and how to knit them. You will cast on, knit a complete toddler sock, and bind off during the class. From beginning to end, you will understand the concept of sock knitting. For this class you must know how to knit on DPNs or two circular needles. | $45, plus supplies.
Socks on Two Circular Needles | class time: 4 hours (two 2-hour sessions) | Socks on 2 circulars don’t slip off! | $45, plus supplies.
Socks on Double Point Needles | class time: 4 hours (two 2-hour sessions) | Learn the basics of sock construction using the ‘old fashioned’ DPNs. | $45, plus supplies.
Super Bulky Winter Vest | class time: 2 hours | In this class you must know the basic knit and purl stitches and how to cast on and bind off. We will cover the pattern instructions, select yarn and begin knitting and you will complete the project on your own. | $25, plus supplies.
Susan's Summer Shawl | class time: two 2-hour classes | Susan teaches you how to read a simple lace chart to knit a beautiful breezy summer shawl. | $45, plus supplies.
Teens and Pre-Teens Beginning Knitting | class time: 2 hours | Designed for students ages 10 and up who want to learn to knit. Take as many or as few classes as you would like and pay as you go. Advance notice for classes is required. Ask about other events if you have a group. | $25, plus supplies.
The Wonderful Wallaby | class time: 6 hours (three 2-hour sessions) | This customer favorite is a great summer project. We meet three times to keep you on track and help with techniques needed in knitting this adorable sweater hoodie. The Wonderful Wallaby makes a great Christmas gift! | $45, plus supplies.
Wrap Me Up! Shrug Knit-A-Long | class time: 8 hours (four 2-hour sessions) | For this class you must know the basic knit & purl stitches and how to cast on and bind off. We will cover the pattern instructions, select yarn, and begin knitting. You will be knitting at home between classes in order to complete the project within this time slot. | $40 per class, plus supplies. Come as you need to, and knit on your own between classes.
